Up until now I have provided you all with information on some unusual parasitic infections that you may or may not have heard about. All of this parasite talk should make everyone rethink sanitary practices. The world is full of microorganisms that can cause disease. Some of these can cause damaging symptoms that can follow you throughout your life. For this short post, I want to discuss some ways to prevent parasitic infections so that no one has to experience one first hand.
I have briefly mentioned some ways to prevent certain infections in my previous posts, but this time I will focus on them to remind you all of how to be safe.
From my personal research with unusual parasites, I learned of three main categories of how to prevent parasitic infections.
Be careful of the food you eat:
Many infections can be contracted by eating contaminated foods. This may sound obvious, but the problem is that many people like to go out to eat. People enjoy to go with some friends to eat or travel and try exotic foods. Be mindful of how your food is prepared. It can be difficult to see directly if people are handling your food in a sanitary way. Go eat in places you trust that the food is handled correctly. Also, wash your fruits and vegetables before eating them.
Watch out for contaminated water:
There are tons of microorganisms in water and not all of them are peaceful. When hiking or traveling, avoid murky and still water. Take appropriate water filters or extra clean water. Also, do not swim in still water. Chances are that water may be contaminated.
Avoid injuries in potential contaminated zones:
Many of the infections I have talked about in my blog are acquired as a result of parasites entering the body through an open injury. The best way to prevent this is by using protective gear while traveling or working. While working, use gloves and masks to prevent parasites entering the body through dust. If hiking, watch for vegetation that can cause injuries like thorns. Before traveling to an unfamiliar location, research the potential location to be sure how protected you have to go.
Some other useful tips to prevent infections are:
- Be mindful of warm and tropical areas, as most parasites reside in these particular locations.
- Eat healthy because some nutrients help the rid the body of parasites.
- Avoid areas with high levels of mosquitoes.
- Wash your hands thoroughly.
- Prevent your blood or stomach from being too acidic, as parasites thrive in acidic environments.
Remember everyone, it is important to be familiar with parasitic infections so that we can take the correct steps to prevent them. Follow sanitary practices and we can all enjoy are trips and work!

ReplyDeleteFirst and foremost, yay! If you are sick person? You're not in the dark anymore, and that's half the battle. Secondly, don't get discouraged. Although it might be hard to not beat yourself up over the ups and downs (it took going through an entire category of medications, endless rounds of physical therapy, multiple casts, different specialists, and taking a drug every day to stay alive. That wasn't for me I must say, I suffered HIV/Herpes since 2003 when I was raped, for me to find something to believe in that I will be save someday was tough to say of things) and the outbreak remind me on how I got the disease.
